An absent city lord brings the city a few bones in 1164 and thus establishes the wealth of the city to this day.
An important chapter in Cologne’s history is decided in faraway Milan. Rebellious Milan is sacked by imperial troops in 1162. However, the leader of the army, Rainald von Dassel, does not have gold or silver in mind when he subsequently plunders the city, but only a few bones!
In 1162, Rainald von Dassel, city ruler of Cologne, leads the imperial army against the rebellious city of Milan in northern Italy. After plundering the city, Rainald came into possession of what were probably the most valuable relics to steal at the time.
